KELLY

Jindo mix | female | 5 months old | 25 lbs

My Story

Kelly is a rescue from Jeju Island, South Korea. Due to increased cost of transport, adoption donation is a minimum of $625 for puppies from Jeju Island.

Kelly was rescued from a dog slaughterhouse. She was very lucky to be one of the few puppies that survived fatal diseases and malnutrition. The farm was horribly contaminated and the dogs were being fed with disgusting food waste. The dogs were all dehydrated from hot Summer weather, lack of ventilation and lack of water. It was a very traumatizing situation for all the dogs living in the dog meat farm.

Kelly has been in foster care since her rescue.

About two months ago, she suddenly lost a sense of movement in two of her legs and her right eye became foggy in just one day. She had a very rare side effect of vaccination. Her front and rear feet on the left side are partially numb, which leads her to walk awkwardly sometimes. Her right eye has cornea opacity and looks foggy which distracts her visibility, but she shows no discomfort.

After two months of intense treatment, she can move much better than when she was first sick. She can run very fast, too.

But her right eye is still foggy and her eye pressure is normal.

My Personality

Kelly is a very shy dog and may take longer than other puppies to gain her trust. It would take at least 1-2 weeks until she becomes a little comfortable at the new setting.

However, she is very friendly and playful towards other dogs. She gets along with other dogs about her size very well. It is recommended that the adopter to already have a friendly companion dog for Kelly.

**We recommend will require enrollment in positive reinforcement training program since Kelly comes from a difficult past where she was exposed to a lot of abuse and trauma.

Kelly knows her name so can be recalled. She has a difficulty learning other commands, not because she is not smart, but she is very shy and stubborn. Her handicap does not affect her intelligence.

SOCIALIZATION QUICK FACTS

Comments:  Kelly is shy and not comfortable with having unfamiliar people touch her.

Kelly loves other dogs and will do best in a home with other dog(s).

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR A HOME WITH YOUNG CHILDREN. She is not aggressive, but she does not like being bothered and disturbed by children.

NOT INTERESTED IN CATS.

DAILY ROUTINE QUICK FACTS

Comments:  Kelly rarely barks and is very quiet. She howls a little bit.

Resource guarding - she protects toys and food from other dogs. She would look over the shoulder while she eats or plays with toys, but she doesn’t show aggression.

Progressing well with leash training.
